Hyderabad: The Congress party has directed its Telangana unit to complete mandal and district committee appointments by the end of June, as the state gears up for local body elections in the coming two months.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has asked the PCC to submit names for committee presidents by June 17. AICC state in-charge Manickam Tagore received complaints during reviews that party leaders in some districts failed to publicise government schemes effectively. The PCC has been tasked with correcting these lapses.
The party recently appointed 27 vice presidents and 69 general secretaries for Telangana Congress and instructed them to begin district-level tours. AICC has assigned observers to each district to report on weak constituencies, factional issues, and internal disputes.
Newly appointed ministers Adluri Laxman, Vakiti Sreehari, and G. Vivek were named district in-charges to inject fresh energy into the organisation. AICC has reportedly told state leaders to ensure the party wins a maximum number of local body seats and to identify key contributors for future recognition.
Despite emerging as a strong opposition in the assembly elections, BRS party failed to win any Lok Sabha seats, and Congress aims to widen this gap in local polls. The party is also finalising pending nominations for state and district-level positions.
Meanwhile, the Congress High Command has reportedly expressed concern that many party MLAs and ministers were not effectively promoting welfare schemes, allowing opposition campaigns to dominate public perception. It reportedly asked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to begin district tours soon to gear up the party for local body elections.
