Hyderabad: The Telangana Education Department rolled back its immediate plan to remove internal marks from Class 10 public examinations, deciding instead to implement the reform from the 2025-26 academic year. Fresh government orders were issued on Tuesday to continue the current 80:20 external-internal assessment system for another year.
Last week, the department announced the removal of internal assessment and the grading system, replacing them with a 100-mark external exam per subject. It had indicated the change would take effect in the current academic year. However, following objections from students and parents, the decision was deferred within a day.

Under the current system, each subject carries 80 marks for the public exam and 20 marks for internal assessment, making a total of 100 marks per subject and 600 marks overall. The grading method has been scrapped, and results will now be issued based on marks, with First, Second, and Third Class distinctions along with Pass/Fail status.
The government confirmed that from 2025-26, the 80:20 ratio will continue, with internal marks recorded as part of a student’s academic performance. Officials said the revision aimed to give stakeholders more time to adapt to the eventual removal of internal marks.
