Telangana BJP prepares cadre for local body poll battle

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Wednesday asked party workers to get ready for a full-scale campaign in the upcoming local body elections, calling them a key step toward forming the next state government.

During a video conference with MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and former candidates, Rao said BJP candidates must contest every post – from ward member to sarpanch – in all villages across Telangana. BJP chief spokesperson N.V. Subhash later shared the details in a press release.

Ramchander Rao said the local polls should work as the BJP’s main grassroots mobilisation effort for the next Assembly elections. He accused the previous BRS government of ignoring gram panchayats and misusing Finance Commission grants. According to him, this negligence stalled village development and even pushed some sarpanches to die by suicide.

He also criticised the current Congress administration. He alleged that the government had not released a single rupee to panchayats in the past two years, even though the party had promised six guarantees and 420 commitments during the elections.

BJP to pitch Modi government schemes in Telangana villages

Further, Ramchander Rao urged party workers to strongly highlight central government schemes in villages. He mentioned rural roads, PM-KISAN, employment programmes, street lighting, sanitation, and crematorium works as key areas to focus on.

The online meeting also saw the participation of senior BJP leaders, including Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. K. Laxman, and national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh.
