Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council sessions will begin on Saturday at 10.30 a.m. On the first day, both Houses will move condolence motions for deceased legislators. The Assembly will adopt a resolution on the death of Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath, while the Council will mourn former MLCs Dr. T. Ratnakar and M. Rangareddy. After these proceedings, both Houses will adjourn for the day.
Agenda through BAC
The Business Advisory Committees (BAC) of the Assembly and Council, chaired by the Speaker and Chairman, will decide the schedule and agenda for the sittings.
Govt focus on Kaleshwaram report
Government sources said the sessions would function as special sittings dedicated to the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission report on the Kaleshwaram irrigation project. The report is likely to be tabled on Monday, followed by a debate lasting two or three days. The sittings may not exceed three to five working days.
Deputy Speaker election
Alongside the debate, the Assembly will also hold the election of a Deputy Speaker. The ruling Congress nominated Dornakal MLA Ramachandra Nayak for the post. The Speaker will issue a notification, invite nominations, and complete the election process during this session.
Opposition seeks wider discussion
Opposition parties are demanding debates on pressing public issues. Their agenda includes the urea shortage troubling farmers for over a month, flood devastation across 15 districts, fee reimbursement delays, weak hospital infrastructure, sanitation lapses, student deaths in gurukuls, and the absence of a job calendar. Government sources indicated these subjects may not be entertained, sparking criticism.
Cabinet meeting during the session
The state cabinet will also meet on Saturday at the Assembly Committee Hall. Nearly 20 proposals are expected to be cleared, including a decision to extend 42% reservations for BCs in local bodies. A government order will be issued soon.
Session arrangements reviewed
Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy reviewed the arrangements with Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Jitender. They finalised security and administrative measures for the sittings.
