Telangana on alert as minister orders action plan for heavy rains

Hyderabad: Following a forecast of very heavy rainfall, Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy instructed district officials to stay alert and act swiftly to prevent damage to life and property.

The minister held a teleconference on Friday with Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Anjani Kumar. They spoke with district collectors, SPs, and senior officials from the irrigation, electricity, GHMC, and transport departments.

He told all departments to work in coordination and avoid disruptions, especially as Dasara travel from Hyderabad increases.

Telangana heavy rain alert issued before festival rush

The minister noted that Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, and Hyderabad districts received heavy rain in the last 24 hours. He warned of more rain in the next 24 hours and urged advance steps in these areas.

In Vikarabad, rains swelled the Musi river. Officials moved 55 people to safety from low-lying areas near the Bhoolakshmi temple under Shivaji Bridge. More evacuations may follow if needed.

With inflows rising at Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar, the minister asked irrigation teams to match releases with inflows. He stressed timely alerts to residents and readiness of shelter homes in case of emergency.

Dasara travel, reservoir levels prompt action

Ponguleti said tank levels across the state are already full. He told irrigation officials to prevent breaches. Police must guard low-level causeways and stop people from crossing risky areas. Youths should avoid taking selfies near water bodies, he added.

The minister also asked for deployment of NDRF and SDRF rescue teams. He stressed 24/7 monitoring in flood-prone zones.

He told police to manage traffic and ensure smooth travel during Dasara, especially for people leaving Hyderabad for their hometowns.
