Over 1,100 women take part in Starlight Strides night run

Hyderabad: Over 1,100 women runners took part in the sixth edition of Starlight Strides – Women’s Night Run 2026 at Gachibowli on Saturday night. The Hyderabad Runners Society organised the event, which focused on fitness, safety and empowerment.

Hyderabad Runners Society President Arun Kumar said it was inspiring to see so many women at a night run held exclusively for them. He described Starlight Strides as a celebration of womanhood. “It is a tribute to the significant role women play in the socio-economic progress of society,” he said. According to Kumar, the initiative aims to encourage women to prioritise their physical and mental well-being, build confidence and become stronger.

Several women ran in sarees, adding colour and tradition to the event. They also drew enthusiastic cheers from fellow runners and spectators.

Starlight Strides features three race categories

The event had three categories: 10K Timed Run, 5K Timed Run and 5K Fun Run. It was open to women across age groups and fitness levels. Under the Society’s Gift a Run initiative, women from NGOs, including SABA, received complimentary registrations. The move aimed to promote inclusive participation.

Another highlight of Starlight Strides was the graduation run of the Women’s Couch25K, a six-week structured training programme by the Society. More than 180 women completed their 5K graduation run under the guidance of 17 women mentors. The mentors were felicitated for their contribution to the initiative.

Further, the evening featured the much-anticipated “Run in Saree, Win Big” contest, presented by Mandir. Participants in traditional attire competed for gift vouchers worth a total of Rs 2.5 lakh. As a result, the contest added a festive touch to the celebrations.
