Sridhar Babu urges Centre to open new passport seva kendra in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Tuesday called on the union government to establish an additional passport seva kendra in Hyderabad to meet the city’s rising demand for passport services.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new Rayadurgam passport seva kendra, the Minister said Hyderabad’s rapid expansion has significantly increased the need for public service infrastructure. He noted that Telangana receives close to 11 lakh passport applications annually, contributing a sizable share to the national average of over one crore applications.

“With Hyderabad growing in all directions and the population steadily increasing, we urgently need more passport facilities,” he said.

Sridhar Babu praised the Telangana police for expediting the verification process. He said applicants now receive clearances within three days, a benchmark other states can emulate.

He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to using technology for transparent and efficient citizen services.

The new Rayadurgam centre, he added, would particularly benefit IT professionals and students residing in the area.

The event was attended by MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, MLC Mahender Reddy, MLA Arikapudi Gandhi, Secunderabad Regional Passport Officer Snehaja, and other senior officials.
