Speaker clears 7 MLAs in defection case, says they remain with BRS

Hyderabad: In a significant political development in Telangana, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Thursday delivered his verdict in the defection case involving two BRS MLAs Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Kale Yadaiah. They were accused of switching to the Congress.

The Speaker dismissed the disqualification petitions filed against them, stating that both legislators continue to be with the BRS. He ruled that there was no evidence to support claims of defection.

With this decision, the Speaker has now cleared seven out of the ten MLAs facing defection charges. Previously, he had given a similar verdict in favour of five other legislators Arekapudi Gandhi, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, Prakash Goud, and Tellam Venkata Rao. He confirmed their association with BRS.

Three more MLAs Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, and Dr Sanjay are still under scrutiny. The hearing in their cases is yet to be completed.

The Speaker’s ruling comes a day ahead of the Supreme Court’s scheduled hearing on the broader defection petitions. Meanwhile, political observers are closely watching how BRS will respond to the Speaker’s decision. Furthermore, they are watching how the Supreme Court will proceed with the case.
