Hyderabad: SHE Teams apprehended 2,935 people for alleged eve-teasing and other objectionable activities during Ganesh festivities from September 14 to 26. Hyderabad City Police deployed the teams at major festival venues and immersion routes. The SHE Teams Ganesh festival deployment focused on preventing harassment and protecting women and girls.
The teams maintained a presence at the Khairatabad Ganesh and Balapur Ganesh mandaps. In addition, they covered crowded locations and important immersion routes across the city. Police carried out the deployment on instructions from the Commissioner of Police and Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes), Hyderabad City.
SHE Teams Ganesh festival drive leads to 69 convictions
During the festival period, SHE Teams apprehended 2,935 people for alleged objectionable activities, including eve-teasing. Of them, police counselled and warned 858 people before releasing them after verification.
Meanwhile, police said courts convicted 69 people in connection with the offences. Of those convicted, 24 received fines of Rs 1,050 each. Additionally, courts ordered 40 people to perform social service and pay fines of Rs 1,050 each. Courts sentenced another five people to imprisonment and imposed fines on them.
Police said the sustained deployment aimed to deter harassment at crowded festival locations. Moreover, SHE Teams monitored immersion routes to provide a safer environment for women and girls during the celebrations.
