Villagers demand immediate closure of polluting iron sponge plant

Hyderabad: Residents of Kandivanam and Mogiligida villages in Shadnagar constituency of Rangareddy district have demanded the immediate closure of Om Shiva Shakti Kedia Iron Sponge Industry. They allege that its operations are causing severe environmental pollution and threatening public health.

Addressing a press conference at Basheerbagh Press Club in Hyderabad, the villagers alleged that toxic smoke and black dust from the factory are contaminating agricultural fields. They said this is reducing crop yields and affecting livestock. They also claimed that industrial effluents are entering nearby ponds and contaminating drinking water, which is causing health problems among residents.

Villagers allege cattle deaths and school dust

The villagers reportedly said dairy cattle are dying. They also alleged that black dust accumulating on government school premises is affecting students’ health.

Villagers also alleged that authorities have not responded to repeated complaints to government offices and the Pollution Control Board. They demanded stringent action against the iron sponge industry management and its immediate closure. They warned that their agitation will continue until the authorities meet their demands.
