Hyderabad: Government Adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Thursday called for village, ward and booth-level special teams to carry out SIR voter verification through house-to-house visits. He said the exercise should ensure that no eligible voter was left out during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Shabbir Ali made the appeal after registering his voter details under the SIR process at his residence in Kamareddy. Officials completed the registration under the supervision of the in-charge Additional Collector.
Speaking on the occasion, he described the right to vote as one of the most valuable rights in a democracy. He also urged Congress leaders, party workers, sarpanches, ward members, councillors, booth-level agents and booth-level officers to coordinate during the revision process.
SIR voter verification must protect genuine voters
Shabbir Ali said the Election Commission of India and the official machinery had a responsibility to conduct the revision transparently. Therefore, he said every step should strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
He stressed that officials should not remove genuine and eligible voters from the electoral rolls. Meanwhile, they should identify and delete duplicate and ineligible entries to improve transparency.
He also asked Congress leaders and workers to visit every household. Further, he urged them to verify voter lists at the booth level. In addition, he asked them to help every young man and woman aged 18 or above enrol as voters.
Shabbir Ali said democratic groups expressed concerns about voter lists in some states. Therefore, he urged officials and political parties to remain alert and protect the sanctity of the electoral rolls.
“Every vote has equal value in a democracy. Protecting the right to vote is the responsibility of every political party and every citizen. No eligible voter should be left out, and duplicate and ineligible votes must be removed to make the election process more transparent,” he said.
Finally, Congress leaders, public representatives, booth-level agents, party workers and officials attended the programme.
