Serial chain snatchers caught after interstate chase; gold recovered

Hyderabad: Chaitanyapuri police busted a notorious chain-snatching gang by arresting two serial offenders in Delhi, recovering 55.2 grams of stolen gold. The operation followed a string of snatching cases reported in LB Nagar Zone.

The accused, Akshay Kumar Sharma (29) and Rohit (26), targeted women in Hayathnagar, Nagole, and Chaitanyapuri areas on January 17. They used a stolen Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle, later abandoned in Secunderabad, before fleeing to Delhi.

Tech-driven operation leads to swift arrests in Delhi

A special police team, guided by Addl. DCP B Koteshwar Rao and ACP A Krishnaiah, tracked the suspects using CCTV footage, tower dump analysis, call data records, and technical surveillance.

S Guruswami, DI, Chaitanyapuri Police Station, led a team to Delhi. Acting on specific leads, they apprehended both accused and recovered three stolen gold chains and two mobile phones.

Investigations confirmed the accused were habitual offenders with past cases in Delhi and Nagpur. After their release from jail in July 2025, they committed at least seven chain-snatching crimes across Hyderabad and Malkajgiri.

Their arrest helped solve nine pending cases across multiple police jurisdictions.

Senior officers commended the Chaitanyapuri police team for their swift and effective response and announced rewards for their performance.

Police urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activity by dialling 100.
