Hyderabad: Women’s week celebrations began across Telangana on Monday. Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Danasari Anasuya Seethakka called upon women to participate in large numbers.
Seethakka extended greetings to women across the state. She described the celebrations as a festival of women’s empowerment, self-respect and achievement.
The minister released a video message from Praja Bhavan ahead of the week-long programmes scheduled from May 25 to May 30.
According to Seethakka, self-help groups that began with small savings had now emerged as the backbone of Telangana’s rural economy.
She said the government under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was transforming women into entrepreneurs and employment generators. She added that the government no longer viewed women merely as beneficiaries.
The minister stated that the government was providing interest-free loans of up to Rs 10 lakh to women’s groups.
Women’s week celebrations focus on empowerment
Seethakka said women were making progress in sectors such as canteens, solar plants, centering units and brick manufacturing centres.
She added that the government was extending support to help women create sustainable income sources.
The minister also said the government had taken up construction of 8,000 women’s buildings in rural areas. According to her, the buildings would provide dignified spaces for meetings and activities.
Seethakka said the celebrations would also reflect on the two-and-a-half-year journey of Praja Palana governance in Telangana.
She stated that the government distributed one crore sarees to women across the state.
The minister also said the government facilitated bank linkages worth more than Rs 60,000 crore for women’s self-help groups.
Seethakka stated that the government aimed to fulfil Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision of creating one crore women millionaires in Telangana.
She said stronger women would strengthen families and contribute to Telangana’s development.
The minister also announced that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy would interact with women self-help group members at 4 pm on Monday.
She urged women across Telangana to participate in the interaction and make the women’s week celebrations successful.
