Hyderabad: Saroornagar Police solved the Pochamma Temple theft case by arresting a 27-year-old man accused of stealing valuables and cash from the Pochamma Temple in Saraswathi Nagar Colony.
Police identified the accused as Burla Anil, a native of Mahabubabad district. Officers recovered a gold mangalsutra, silver articles and cash stolen from the temple’s donation box (hundi).
Pochamma Temple theft linked to online betting debt
The investigation revealed that the accused had accumulated debts because of an alleged online betting addiction. Accordingly, police said he targeted the temple to obtain money.
Investigators said the accused broke the temple lock around midnight and cut the CCTV wires before committing the theft. He then stole valuables and cash from the temple.
Police traced the accused using technical evidence, CCTV footage and forensic clues. Subsequently, they arrested him and produced him before a court.
The court remanded the accused to judicial custody. Meanwhile, senior police officials commended the investigation team for solving the case quickly and recovering the stolen property.
