Hyderabad: The Cure SMA Foundation of India announced Run for SMA 2026, which will take place at Gachibowli Stadium on August 9. The event aims to raise awareness about Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and promote preventive healthcare.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh launched the event at the Cyberabad Commissionerate. He unveiled the event poster and the official T-shirt. Additionally, he extended support to the initiative.
Run for SMA 2026 promotes awareness and early screening
Cure SMA India Co-founder Srilakshmi Nalam called for stronger collaboration among governments, healthcare professionals, researchers, corporates and patient groups. According to her, such cooperation would improve access to advanced SMA treatment and promote genetic carrier screening for early prevention.
The event will feature 21K, 10K and 5K timed runs. In addition, organisers will conduct a 5K fun run and walk. Participants will receive a T-shirt, medal, certificate, breakfast and event photographs. Winners in the timed categories will also receive cash prizes.
Run for SMA 2026 offers free genetic carrier screening
A key highlight of this year’s event is free SMA genetic carrier screening at the venue. Normally, the screening costs about ₹5,000. However, organisers will offer it free to encourage informed family planning and early detection.
The organisers expect students, corporate employees, healthcare professionals, runners and SMA-affected families to participate. Meanwhile, registrations for Run for SMA 2026 are now open.
