Hyderabad: Three members of an inter-state robbery gang were arrested by the Commissioner’s Task Force, Secunderabad Zone, along with Lalaguda Police. They were arrested for a violent gold theft at an apartment in East Marredpally.
The accused forcibly entered the flat of Sharath Naresh at Arihant Sadan Apartment on January 21. They confined and assaulted the victim, and robbed her of gold ornaments weighing approximately 28.8 grams. The stolen property, worth ₹4.5 lakh, was recovered during their arrest near Secunderabad Railway Station on January 27.
According to police, the prime accused, Gurrappagari Mahesh, had earlier worked as a watchman at the same apartment complex from October 2021 to May 2024. He was familiar with the residents’ routines. Therefore, he conspired with two accomplices Chinnakotla Pavan Kumar and Geeju Surendra — to commit the crime. All three hail from Cheekirevulapalle village in Sri Sathya Sai district, Andhra Pradesh.
Robbery gang held after fleeing to Karnataka
On the day of the crime, Mahesh and Pavan entered Flat 301, threatened the woman at home with dire consequences, and looted her jewelry. They then fled to Secunderabad, where Surendra was waiting. Afterward, they escaped to Karnataka. The gang split the stolen gold among themselves before going into hiding.
Mahesh has a criminal record involving two kidnapping cases registered at Karkhana Police Station in 2024. Pavan was previously involved in a 2019 murder case in Bengaluru.
To crack the case registered under Cr. No. 17/2026 U/s 309 BNS at Lalaguda Police Station, five special teams were formed. The accused were apprehended based on intelligence inputs and sustained surveillance.
The operation was led under the supervision of DCP Secunderabad Zone Smt. Rakshitha K. Murthy, IPS, and DCP Task Force Sri Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, IPS. It was also overseen by senior officers and teams from Secunderabad Task Force and Lalaguda Police Station.
