Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday said the government will transform Mahabubnagar into one of the most developed districts in the state. He said the region, once known for distress migration, will emerge as a model destination for visitors from across India and abroad.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while launching development projects worth over ₹1,000 crore. These were launched under the “Praja Palana – Pragathi Baata” programme in Mahabubnagar.
Palamuru will become a landmark for Telangana, says CM
Revanth Reddy said his dream is to turn Palamuru into a place every Telangana visitor must see. He recalled that during earlier regimes, leaders showcased local poverty to seek grants. However, his government is focused on resolving decade-old pending projects and taking the region forward.
He urged everyone to rise above politics and work together for the development of Mahabubnagar. “On the occasion of Sankranti, we aim to bring new light to Palamuru,” he said, after launching the IIIT campus and other infrastructure works.
The Chief Minister identified irrigation gaps and lack of educational opportunities as the main reasons behind Palamuru’s historical backwardness. He declared that providing funds for education is his direct responsibility.
Telangana seeks IIM for Mahabubnagar, fast-tracks irrigation
Revanth Reddy announced that the state has formally requested the Centre to sanction an Indian Institute of Management (IIM). He also asked to establish it in Mahabubnagar. He stressed the need to meet the Prime Minister to get clearances and funds for projects. Similarly, he said sarpanches are critical for village-level development.
He said the government is giving highest priority to education and irrigation. Pending works on the Palamuru–Rangareddy, SLBC, Jurala, and Kalwakurthy projects will be completed. The state will resolve all R&R issues first, he added.
Calling illiteracy and poverty his “real enemies,” Revanth said those who harm students or oppress women are also his political enemies. “We must collectively fight poverty and push it out of Telangana’s borders,” he said.
CM details key project funding and land acquisition efforts
He criticised the previous BRS regime for failing to clear or sanction any new project over ten years. “All major irrigation works in this region were cleared before Telangana formation,” he said, citing Nettempadu, Bheema, Kalwakurthy, Koilsagar, and Palamuru–Rangareddy.
Since taking office, his government released funds for key acquisitions: ₹10 crore for Sangambanda, ₹75 crore for Kalwakurthy lift irrigation, and ₹1,500 crore for the Makthal–Narayanpet–Kodangal lift scheme. He noted that 96% of landowners under this scheme agreed to part with land after receiving 100% compensation.
Revanth Reddy said that the government would not compromise on development. He added they would ensure that both Centre and State funds are effectively used to transform Mahabubnagar.
Ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Jupally Krishna Rao, V. Srinivas Goud, Mohammed Azharuddin, Vice Chairman of State Planning Board B. Chinnareddy, and MPs Mallu Ravi and DK Aruna also attended the programme.
