Revanth seeks Centre’s nod for Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 expansion

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy to secure the immediate release of funds sanctioned by the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) and obtain approvals for Hyderabad Metro Phase 2.

In an open letter, Revanth Reddy said the Telangana government had completed all preconditions for taking over Hyderabad Metro Phase 1 and launching Hyderabad Metro Phase 2. He asked Kishan Reddy to take up the issue with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and help speed up the process.

The Chief Minister said IRFC had planned to release the first tranche of the loan on June 15, 2026, under the Metro takeover agreement. He noted that the State government fulfilled every mandatory condition. It also paid Rs.84.32 crore as an advance fee requested by IRFC. However, IRFC has not released the funds so far, he said.

Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 needs early clearance

Revanth Reddy said the State government is ready to provide any additional information on the Metro takeover, signed agreements or Hyderabad Metro Phase 2. He added that he is willing to meet Kishan Reddy along with senior officials. During the meeting, the government can explain every aspect of the project and clarify pending issues.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister urged Kishan Reddy to ensure the immediate release of the IRFC loan. He also requested early approvals for Hyderabad Metro Phase 2. In addition, Revanth Reddy sought an early meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to discuss the project and resolve pending concerns.

Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 covers seven corridors

In the seven-page letter, Revanth Reddy outlined details of the Metro Phase 1 takeover and the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 proposal. The project proposes seven corridors covering 122.9 kilometres across the city. The estimated cost stands at Rs.38,595 crore.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister expressed hope that Kishan Reddy would arrange a meeting with the Railway Minister. He said such a meeting would help accelerate decisions on the project.

Revanth Reddy also reiterated his readiness to attend discussions with all relevant agreements and supporting documents. He said he would clarify any doubts and help resolve the matter at the earliest.
