Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Sunday announced that the second phase of the Sriram Sagar project will carry the name of former minister Ramreddy Damodar Reddy. He assured that the government will issue an order within 24 hours to formalise this decision.
He made the announcement at a condolence meeting held at Thungaturthi mandal headquarters in Suryapet district. Revanth Reddy described the decision as a meaningful tribute to a leader whose public service spanned four decades.
The Chief Minister said several Congress leaders—Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and V Hanumantha Rao—had requested the government to name the Sriram Sagar second phase after Damodar Reddy. He confirmed that he acted on their appeal without delay.
Revanth Reddy highlighted the late minister’s five terms as MLA and two terms as minister. He noted that Damodar Reddy used his personal wealth to help the people.

Revanth Reddy recalled that Damodar Reddy remained loyal to the Congress party even during difficult times in Thungaturthi. He praised him for resisting factionalism and leading the struggle to bring Sriram Sagar water to drought-hit, fluoride-affected areas.
The Chief Minister said the All India Congress Committee expressed deep sorrow over the leader’s death. He added that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge promised to support the late leader’s family.
He also noted that Rahul Gandhi sent a personal condolence message. Revanth Reddy pledged that the Congress party would assist Damodar Reddy’s son Sarvottham Reddy in his political journey.
