Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday expressed deep shock over the death of veteran communist and farmers’ leader Sarampally Malla Reddy. In a statement, the Chief Minister recalled Malla Reddy’s long involvement in movements concerning farmers and agricultural problems.
Revanth Reddy said the veteran leader had led several struggles for farmers’ rights and solutions to issues affecting agriculture. He described Malla Reddy’s services as a farmers’ organisation leader and All India Kisan Sabha vice-president as memorable.
The Chief Minister also conveyed his condolences and sympathies to Malla Reddy’s family members and admirers.
Sarampally Malla Reddy fought for farmers’ rights
Revanth Reddy said Sarampally Malla Reddy had dedicated his life to farmers’ welfare. He recalled Malla Reddy’s work on a wide range of agricultural issues. These included land rights, irrigation water, agricultural loans and seeds.
The Chief Minister said Malla Reddy had continuously worked on problems affecting farmers and the agricultural sector. He also recalled the leader’s role in organising movements to protect farmers’ rights.
Revanth Reddy prayed for peace to the departed leader’s soul. He expressed profound sympathy to the bereaved family and Malla Reddy’s supporters. Malla Reddy, a senior CPI(M) leader and AIKS vice-president, died early Monday morning.
According to the information provided, he was 90. He had suffered from age-related ailments and respiratory problems. Malla Reddy had received treatment at NIMS in Hyderabad for the previous four days.
His health deteriorated further around midnight on Sunday. Doctors then provided emergency treatment. However, his condition did not improve. He died at around 3.30 am on Monday.
CPI and CPI(M) leaders pay tributes
Leaders of the CPI and CPI(M) paid tributes following the death of Sarampally Malla Reddy. His death marked the loss of a senior figure associated with communist politics and farmers’ movements.
Malla Reddy had spent decades raising agricultural issues and participating in struggles concerning rural communities. His work covered land rights, irrigation, farm credit and access to seeds.
He also served in a senior role in the All India Kisan Sabha. Revanth Reddy said those contributions to farmers’ movements would remain memorable. The Chief Minister recalled Malla Reddy as a leader who consistently stood at the forefront of struggles concerning agriculture.
He said Malla Reddy had devoted his life to advancing the welfare and rights of farmers. Revanth Reddy conveyed his condolences to the family, admirers and supporters of Sarampally Malla Reddy.
