Revanth Reddy government committed to 10% Muslim quota: Shabbir Ali

Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and government advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir said the Revanth Reddy government is fully committed to increasing the Muslim reservation from 4 per cent to 10 per cent. He stated the change would follow the implementation of 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs).

Speaking to residents in Erragadda after Friday prayers, Shabbir Ali linked the proposed hike to findings from the recent caste survey. The data reportedly shows that 10.08 per cent of Muslims in Telangana fall under the BC-E category. Many of them still face economic and educational hardship.

10% Muslim quota tied to BC reform

Shabbir recalled that the earlier Congress government introduced a 4 per cent Muslim quota in 2004–05. That decision, he said, changed the lives of over 20 lakh poor families. “Now, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is taking that vision forward,” he added.

He stressed that both the 10 per cent Muslim quota and the 42 per cent BC quota stem from principles of social justice. “These are not appeasement policies. They are long-overdue steps toward representation,” he said.

Congress highlights inclusion in campaign

As part of the Jubilee Hills by-election campaign, Shabbir Ali and Government Whip A. Srinivas conducted a door-to-door outreach in Erragadda. They urged voters to support Congress candidate Naveen Yadav and uphold the government’s inclusive policies.

According to Shabbir, the Congress government has already begun restoring trust among marginalised communities. He pointed to recent appointments of minority professionals, transparent hiring processes, and renewed attention to welfare boards.

Shabbir contrasts Congress and BRS records

Shabbir sharply criticised the previous BRS government. He claimed it promised a 12 per cent Muslim quota but reduced it to a symbolic 3 per cent. “They slashed welfare budgets and let key institutions decline,” he said.

He ended by urging voters to view the by-election as more than a routine contest. “This is a choice about justice. With public backing, the Congress will deliver on the 10 per cent Muslim quota,” he said.
