Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday directed officials to consult Osmania University students and faculty before finalising the upcoming development plans for the historic campus.
He announced he would visit the university on December 10 to inspect academic blocks, hostels, and other facilities. During a review meeting held at his residence, officials briefed him on the planned works via a PowerPoint presentation.
Osmania University development to involve student, faculty input
Revanth Reddy instructed that development models be shown to students and teachers first. Feedback mechanisms including drop boxes and a dedicated website should be set up. A final decision must be made by the end of December, with student opinions given priority.
The Chief Minister also suggested key changes to hostel buildings, roads, academic blocks, and the auditorium. He said new construction must accommodate 10% more students than current capacity to prevent future shortages.
Green spaces, heritage structures, and facilities to be upgraded
Revanth urged the use of urban forestry funds for green zones inside the campus and stressed the need for new water resource creation alongside conservation of existing ones. He added that symbols reflecting the student struggle at Osmania should be visibly incorporated into the campus design.
He directed that only historically significant buildings should be preserved, while new structures should replace old, non-heritage ones. Attention should also be given to cycle tracks and pedestrian pathways.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, State Government Advisor Kesava Rao, Special Secretary to CM Ajith Reddy, Education Principal Secretary Yogita Rana, Commissioner of Technical Education Sridevasena, OU Vice Chancellor Prof. Molugaram Kumar, and Arts College Principal Prof. Kashim, among others.
