Ramchander Rao says BJP will rename Nizamabad as Indur

Hyderabad: Nizamabad name change became a major political issue after Telangana BJP president Ramchander Rao said the party would rename the district as Indur if it came to power.

Speaking to national media, Rao said several place names still reflected oppression from the Nizam era. He stated that such names reminded people of injustice and suffering. Therefore, he argued that the state must correct history by changing them.

Rao made it clear that the BJP stood firmly behind the proposal. He said renaming Nizamabad as Indur was part of the party’s commitment. According to him, the move aligned with public feeling and historical correction.

He also said the plan did not apply only to Nizamabad. Rao added that many other places still carried names linked to Nizam rule. Hence, he felt the government must review such names across Telangana.

Nizamabad name change proposal follows MP Arvind’s remarks

Earlier, BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind triggered the debate by questioning the impact of the district’s name. While speaking at a public programme, he said the name Nizamabad brought misfortune to the region.

Arvind claimed several companies and industries shut down after using the name. In his view, the district needed a new identity to progress. As a result, he strongly pitched for changing the name to Indur.

He said the government must act without delay. His remarks soon drew wide attention and political reactions. With backing from the state BJP leadership, the Nizamabad name change proposal gathered fresh momentum.
