Rainbow–Coal India MoU boosts thalassemia care effort, says Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy said the MoU between Rainbow Children’s Hospital and Coal India Limited strengthened the thalassemia care effort under the Thalassemia Bal Seva Yojana. He described the partnership as an important step toward helping children who required advanced treatment.

He recalled his long association with thalassemia-affected families. Moreover, he noted that his involvement began during his tenure as an MLA. At that stage, he joined MRPS founder Manda Krishna Madiga in demanding stronger government support for critical care.

Reddy said the Centre provided ₹10 lakh financial assistance for each child under the scheme. Additionally, he mentioned that 800 bone marrow transplants had been completed across 17 partner hospitals. These interventions, he explained, offered vital support to families facing heavy medical expenses.

He urged NGOs, youth groups and state governments to intensify thalassemia awareness. According to him, early understanding encouraged faster diagnosis and timely treatment. He also pointed to Ayushman Bharat, TB-Mukt Bharat and Mission Indradhanush as key components of the Centre’s wider health strategy.

Furthermore, he said India aimed to emerge as a global health hub by 2047. He stressed that MoU-based partnerships between public institutions and private hospitals strengthened early screening and care pathways. He concluded by calling for coordinated action to ensure better access for children battling severe blood disorders.
