Hyderabad: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He accused him of ignoring Telangana’s ongoing crises and turning up only for high-profile events like a football match.
In a social media post, Sanjay recalled Rahul Gandhi’s past promise that he would be present in Telangana “in a minute” whenever people needed him. “That minute clearly runs on a luxury time zone,” he wrote. This suggests that Gandhi’s attention span for Telangana begins and ends with VIP events and media optics.
The BJP leader said that while Gandhi found time to watch a celebrity football match in Hyderabad, he remained “blind” to the distress facing ordinary citizens. This was under the Congress-led state government. Sanjay alleged that the Congress had failed to respond meaningfully to a range of serious issues, despite being in power.
He listed specific concerns, including the demolition of houses belonging to poor families and incidents of students dying due to food poisoning. Increasing reports of farmers and weavers being driven to suicide were also mentioned. Sanjay also highlighted the backlog in pension and retirement benefit payments. Additionally, there are mounting delays in student fee reimbursements.
Congress blamed for unfulfilled guarantees and public disorder
Bandi Sanjay further accused the Congress government of openly allowing corruption, citing reports of commissions being collected without fear. He pointed to rising incidents of daylight murders and claimed that temples were being demolished under the current regime.
According to Sanjay, the Congress party’s six guarantees and “420 promises” remained unimplemented and stuck “on paper.” He claimed that while citizens endured suffering, the party leadership remained absent or on vacation. “Fully present when the spotlight is on,” he wrote, adding that the people of Telangana deserved more than performative leadership.

For the people of Telangana, his clock never works.
It only ticks for VIP events and photo ops.

The criticism comes amid rising tensions in the state over governance issues and unfulfilled welfare assurances. BJP leaders have intensified their campaign. They are targeting both national and state Congress figures for what they term a “complete breakdown of accountability.”
