Police crack Nagarkurnool woman murder case within 20 hours over gold theft

Hyderabad: Police cracked the Nagarkurnool woman murder case within 20 hours, arresting the victim’s close relative who killed her for gold in Malkapur village under Navipet police limits.

Nizamabad ACP L. Raja Venkat Reddy confirmed that the accused was the maternal uncle of the victim, Akula Anantha, also known as Soni. He shared case details during a media briefing on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Kumar alias Pandavala Sagar of Mosra village, reportedly needed money to build a house. Since his niece had gold ornaments, he planned to steal them. On November 24, he visited her home with the intent to commit theft.

Finding her alone, he strangled her and took gold earrings, studs, and a necklace. He hid her body inside the house before fleeing. He later pledged 1.5 grams of earrings at the Muthoot Finance branch at Bodhan bus stand and took a ₹12,500 loan. He kept the remaining 13.5 grams of gold with him.

Police tracked and arrested him on Wednesday morning at the Nizamabad bus stand. They seized the pledged gold, the remaining ornaments, and a white Lava keypad mobile phone from him. He was later produced in court.

ACP Reddy said Inspector B. Srinivas and his team cracked the case swiftly. Sub-inspectors Tirupati Goud, Yadagiri Goud, ASI Gaffar, the crime team, and Navipet police personnel were all involved. Commissioner Sai Chaitanya praised their swift and coordinated efforts.
