Hyderabad: The Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) will conduct its 17th meeting on November 7 at 11 a.m. at the Central Water Commission (CWC) Conference Hall in Hyderabad. The PPA Chief Executive Officer will chair the session. Officials from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti will attend the review.
Polavaram Project Authority meeting to review progress and planning
PPA Member Secretary M. Raghuram issued the agenda and confirmed that the meeting would focus on overall project progress. He said the session would also finalise the 2025–26 working season action plan. Andhra Pradesh irrigation officials, therefore, will present updates on current works and timelines for the next phase.
Meanwhile, the Authority will assess the progress of Left Main Canal packages and examine the latest field reports. It will also consider approving the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) drafted by a three-member committee for the construction stage.
Audit issues, HQ shift, and new recruitments on agenda
The Authority will, moreover, address CAG audit objections and finalise required changes linked to the 41.15-metre water storage level. These modifications will, consequently, be forwarded to the Union Government for approval.
Officials will also discuss relocating the PPA headquarters from Delhi to Rajamahendravaram (Bommaru). At present, the Chief Engineer (Planning & Design) office functions from Rajamahendravaram. Later, the Authority may move the office to Amaravati for better coordination.
In addition, the meeting will approve 27 new posts—18 regular and 9 outsourcing—for the project’s construction stage. It will also review expenditure for 2023–24 and 2024–25 to plan the upcoming financial year more effectively.
Telangana coordination and environmental issues
The Authority will, therefore, deliberate on interstate issues with Telangana. These include submergence zones, drainage congestion, Bhadrachalam–Manuguru protection works, and six detailed stream studies.
Furthermore, officials will examine measures to improve coordination between both states. They will also discuss strategies to ensure environmental safeguards and avoid future delays.
