Hyderabad: Police on Thursday revealed that the suspicious death of a 16-year-old intermediate student in Saidapur mandal of Karimnagar district was a case of murder committed by her parents, who later attempted to project it as suicide.
Addressing the media at Saidapur Police Station, Madhavi, ACP of Huzurabad, said the incident occurred on November 15 at Sarvaipeta village. The victim, Reddy Archana, had initially been reported to have died after consuming pesticide due to stomach pain.
Archana’s father, Reddy Raju, had filed a complaint stating that his daughter died by suicide and that he had no suspicion on anyone. However, during investigation, police found inconsistencies and established that the death was not a suicide.
Murder staged as suicide, police say
Police found that Archana was in a relationship with a youth from the same village, Polu Anil. Family members, fearing damage to their reputation, allegedly planned the murder in advance. According to police, Raju and his wife Lavanya forced Archana to consume pesticide while she was asleep and later strangled her to death.
After the incident, the parents lodged a false complaint in an attempt to portray the murder as suicide. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.
Police registered a murder case against both parents and arrested them. Officials said the process to produce the accused before the court was underway.
Puli Venkat Goud, Huzurabad Rural CI, and Tirupati were present during the press briefing.
