Orica explores Telangana expansion, minister Sridhar Babu invites investment

Hyderabad: Telangana Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu met executives of Australia-based industrial major Orica in Melbourne on Wednesday. He invited the company to expand its footprint in Telangana. Orica, a global leader in industrial explosives, mining, and infrastructure solutions, currently operates a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad.

The meeting took place during the minister’s official visit to Australia for the AusBiotech 2025 International Conference. Minister Sridhar Babu held detailed discussions with Orica CEO and MD Sanjeev Gandhi and other senior officials. They reviewed the company’s current operations in Telangana and explored avenues for further investment.

Orica Telangana expansion: Telangana positioned as tech-forward hub

After the meeting, Sridhar Babu said Telangana is emerging as a preferred destination for global firms focusing on innovation and digital transformation. He highlighted Telangana’s investor-friendly policies, robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and stable governance.

He urged Orica to collaborate with the state on advanced manufacturing, sustainable mining practices, and digital engineering. The minister also stressed the importance of co-developing a strong industrial ecosystem.

At present, Orica employs around 600 highly skilled professionals in its Hyderabad centre. These employees work in areas like automation, analytics, and engineering. Sridhar Babu noted that this number is likely to grow in the near future.

Orica ready to deepen investment in Telangana

Orica CEO Sanjeev Gandhi welcomed the Telangana government’s proactive approach. He confirmed the company’s intent to expand and partner with the state in multiple sectors. He also expressed confidence in Telangana’s readiness for future-focused collaboration.

During his Australia tour, Sridhar Babu was warmly received by Orica and other industrial representatives. His visit is aimed at securing strategic investments and enhancing Telangana’s global industrial ties.
