NSUI Telangana to mark Rahul Gandhi’s birthday with Phule movie screening

Hyderabad: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Telangana unit, will host a special screening of the film Phule on June 19 to mark the birthday of Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi. The screening is scheduled at 12:00 PM at PVR Cinemas, Next Galleria Mall, Panjagutta.

State NSUI President Yadavalli Venkataswamy, acting on the directions of national NSUI President Varun Choudhary, announced the event as part of statewide celebrations. The film, based on the lives of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, reflects their fight for equality, education and social reform.

NSUI has linked the tribute to Rahul Gandhi’s current political stance, particularly his advocacy for the nationwide caste census and OBC reservations in legislatures. The organisation credited him for pressing the BJP-led Centre to act on long-pending demands concerning social justice, including the call for reservations in private educational institutions under Article 15(5) of the Constitution.

Venkataswamy called on all NSUI members across Telangana to attend the screening as a symbolic reaffirmation of the social justice values represented by the Phule couple and continued by Rahul Gandhi. He positioned Gandhi’s leadership as aligned with the foundational struggles for equality and dignity, particularly in access to education and employment.

The event forms part of broader birthday commemorations that emphasise the Congress party’s platform on backward class empowerment and equitable representation.
