Hyderabad: A case of NMIMS student suicide was reported from Mahbubnagar district after a 20-year-old engineering student was found dead in his hostel room at a private university campus in Jadcharla mandal, police said on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Ronakraj, a native of Bihar, who was pursuing first-year BTech at NMIMS University college located in the Polepalli SEZ area. According to preliminary information, the student was staying in the college hostel at the time of the incident.
Police said Ronakraj was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room. The college management alerted the authorities after discovering the incident.
NMIMS student suicide followed alleged exam malpractice incident
According to sources, the student had allegedly been caught indulging in malpractice during a Mathematics semester examination conducted on Saturday. Officials said he was distressed following the incident and later returned to his hostel room.
Based on a complaint lodged by the college management, Jadcharla police registered a case and began an investigation. Kamalakar, Circle Inspector of Jadcharla, said the body was shifted for post-mortem examination as part of the legal procedure.
Police said further investigation was underway to establish the sequence of events and circumstances that led to the NMIMS student suicide. No suicide note was reported to have been recovered as of Friday evening.
