Nikhat Zareen meets Telangana advisor after national boxing gold

Hyderabad: Boxing champion Nikhat Zareen met Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Friday, days after winning gold at the 2026 National Boxing Championships. The meeting took place at Shabbir Ali’s residence in Hyderabad.

Zareen secured a dominant 5–0 victory in the national finals, reaffirming her standing as one of India’s top women boxers. Shabbir Ali praised her performance, calling it an inspiring start to the year and a moment of pride for Telangana.

He wished her success in upcoming global events, including the Asian Games, World Championships, and the Olympics. “Nikhat continues to bring recognition to Indian boxing. Her discipline and dedication are a model for youth,” he said.

As a token of gratitude, Zareen presented Shabbir Ali with a jacket from the 2025 World Boxing Championship held in Liverpool. She thanked him and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for supporting her career and facilitating her appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana Police.

“I’m proud to serve as a DSP. This recognition motivates me to strive harder in the ring,” Zareen said.

Shabbir Ali highlighted Telangana’s commitment to promoting sports and honouring talent. He mentioned the nomination of both Zareen and cricketer Mohammed Siraj for DSP roles as part of this initiative. The state, he said, is also investing in infrastructure, training, and welfare schemes for athletes.
