Hyderabad: BRS Legislature Party Deputy Floor Leader and former Minister Harish Rao alleged that the recent municipal results had exposed a Congress-BJP power pact in Telangana, accusing both parties of abandoning their stated ideologies to capture positions of authority.
In a statement issued on Monday, Harish Rao said the Congress and the BJP had demonstrated how far they could go for power. He claimed both parties had discarded their flags, agendas and principles to secure control of municipal bodies.
For the past 12 years, the Congress had described the BRS as the BJP’s B-team, while the BJP had labelled the BRS as the Congress B-team. However, the latest developments had exposed what he termed their false claims. According to him, the two parties had now come together and effectively functioned as a single political unit.
He alleged that people had recognised what he described as an immoral and opportunistic alliance. The Congress-BJP power pact, he claimed, stood revealed through the outcome of municipal elections across the state.
Municipal results highlight Congress-BJP power pact in towns
Harish Rao stated that the “Fevicol bond” between the Congress and the BJP had once again surfaced through the municipal results. He alleged that both parties had set aside their ideological differences solely to prevent the BRS from gaining control.
The municipal outcomes, he said, proved that the Congress and the BJP were acting in tandem in Telangana. While the two parties opposed each other in Delhi, they cooperated in local bodies, shared authority and divided posts, he alleged.
He cited the results in Aliyabad, Amangal, Medak and Narsapur as evidence of what he described as coordinated action. According to him, these towns reflected the operational nature of the Congress-BJP power pact at the grassroots level.
Harish Rao questions Congress over Congress-BJP power pact
Harish Rao further stated that the Congress lacked the strength to face the BRS independently in Telangana. Therefore, he alleged, it had aligned with the BJP to secure municipal positions. He described the coming together of two national parties as a deliberate move to block the BRS and influence outcomes.
He also referred to remarks made by Rahul Gandhi at the national level. While Rahul Gandhi claimed to be fighting the BJP across the country, the Congress leadership in Telangana under Revanth Reddy was openly aligning with the BJP, he alleged.
According to Harish Rao, Rahul Gandhi spoke about safeguarding the Constitution in Delhi. However, he claimed that the Congress government in Telangana was undermining its spirit through what he termed power-sharing arrangements with the BJP.
The BRS leader maintained that the municipal results had clearly demonstrated the existence of the Congress-BJP power pact. He asserted that the developments had political significance in the state’s evolving landscape.
