HYDERABAD: In the lead-up to the upcoming MLC elections in Telangana, five candidates have officially filed their nominations.
Three candidates from the Congress party – Addanki Dayakar, Vijayashanthi, and Shankar Naik—submitted their nomination papers on Monday. They were accompanied by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, ministers, and several MLAs during the filing process.
In addition, Nellikanti Satyam, a leader from the Communist Party of India (CPI), filed his nomination with the backing of the Congress party.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party nominated Dasoju Shravan, who also filed his nomination on Monday. He was accompanied by senior BRS leaders, including former minister K.T. Rama Rao and Harish Rao, during the nomination process.
Each candidate requires the support of at least 21 MLAs to secure a seat in the MLC elections. In the 2023 Assembly elections, the BRS won 39 seats; however, approximately 10 of their MLAs have since joined the Congress party, affecting BRS’s strength. The Congress currently holds 64 seats, positioning them favorably in the upcoming elections.
