Hyderabad: Miss World contestants created buzz in Mahabubnagar district with their visit to the ancient Pillalamarri banyan tree site. Guides explained the nearly 750-year-old tree’s history, while traditional Potaraju and Bonalu setups added local flavour to the experience.
A total of 22 contestants, split into two groups, visited key tourist spots in the region. They explored Telangana’s cultural sculptures, the local archaeological museum, and the Raja Rajeshwari Sametha Ramalingeshwara Swamy temple.
As part of the Miss World event schedule, the Sports Finale will be held on May 17 at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium. The same day also includes visits to Telangana Experience Eco Tourism Park, a Telangana food festival, and a cultural programme.
On May 19, the contestants are set to tour the State Secretariat, Tank Bund, Ambedkar Statue, and Telangana’s Command Control Centre. Continental finale events under T-Hub will be held on May 20 and 21. A dedicated arts and crafts session is scheduled at Shilparamam on May 21.
The Telangana government is hosting the Miss World contests to draw global attention to the state, strengthen Hyderabad’s brand image, and promote local tourist destinations. The total event expenditure is ₹54 crore, with ₹27 crore funded by the state government. Out of this, only ₹5 crore will be directly spent by the government, while the remaining ₹22 crore will be mobilised through sponsors.
