Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday hit back at BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, dismissing his challenge for a press club debate as pure political drama. He said the Congress government had rolled out multiple welfare schemes, which the opposition was unable to digest.
Speaking to reporters, the senior Congress leader accused BRS of engaging in street theatrics to distract from the government’s public initiatives. “They can’t stomach our pro-people programmes, so they resort to stunts,” he said.
Minister Ponnam called KTR’s press club challenge a “political drama” and dared the BRS to demand an assembly debate through the Speaker if they were serious. “If they really care about the issues, let them follow procedure and seek a debate on the floor of the House,” he said.
He asserted that the Congress is ready to debate farmer welfare and other subjects in the Assembly, not in public rallies. “We want every word on record. Let people see, let future generations know who stood for what. Public issues must be debated in public institutions,” he said.
He added that the Assembly was the only place where discussions are documented, transparent, and accessible. “Let the people judge after the debate,” he said.
