Hyderabad: A 17-year-old boy died by suicide while speaking to his girlfriend on a video call in Medipally, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred under the Medipally police station limits in Medchal–Malkajgiri district, triggering shock and grief in the locality.
According to police, the boy lived with his parents near the Ayyappa Swamy temple area in Boduppal. He was the son of a private employee and studied at a government ITI college. At the time, he was undergoing practical training at a car showroom in Medipally.
On the night of February 5, his parents went out shopping, leaving him alone at home. During their absence, he made a video call to the girl he was in a relationship with and took the extreme step, police said.
Alarmed by what she witnessed, the girl immediately informed his friends. They rushed to the house and found him unconscious. The friends shifted him to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, the teenager died while undergoing treatment on Friday, February 6. The death plunged the family and neighbourhood into mourning, with relatives and friends breaking down in grief.
Following a complaint from the boy’s father, police registered a case and began an investigation. Officers said they were examining whether the suicide was linked to a romantic relationship or if other factors played a role.
