Villagers thrash bike thieves, one set on fire in Medak’s Chegunta

Hyderabad: Villagers in Medak district’s Chegunta mandal caught two men attempting to steal a motorcycle on Saturday evening and assaulted them. The incident took place in Vadiyaram village.

Thieves caught and attacked

According to police, locals confronted the suspects when they tried to escape with a bike. Angered, the villagers beat them up. During the scuffle, they found a petrol bottle in one suspect’s pocket. He was doused with petrol and set on fire.

Some villagers, however, intervened quickly and extinguished the flames, saving him from fatal burns. Police were alerted soon after.

Injured shifted to hospital

Police identified the accused as Yevan and Mahipal, residents of Jangarai village. The injured Yevan was shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad, where his condition is reported to be critical.

Investigators revealed that Mahipal already faces a POCSO case.

Police probe

Following the incident, Toopran DSP Narender Goud, Ramayampet CI Venkataraja Goud, and Chegunta SI Chaitanya Kumar Reddy visited the village to gather details. DSP Narender Goud said a detailed investigation is underway.
