Hyderabad: Tension erupted in Medchal district on Wednesday evening after a man was shot in Medchal near the Pocharam IT Corridor under Rachakonda Commissionerate limits. The victim, Prashant alias Sonu, who frequently opposed illegal cattle transport, suffered bullet injuries to his chest.
According to police, Sonu, a resident of Rampally under Keesara mandal, often intervened against cattle smugglers. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Chaudhary from Bahadurpura contacted him, claiming he had information about a smuggling route. Believing the tip to be genuine, Sonu met him near the Pocharam police station. However, Ibrahim suddenly pulled out a firearm, shot him, and escaped before anyone could intervene.

Soon after the firing, Sonu staggered toward the roadside, bleeding heavily, and collapsed. Locals immediately spotted him and alerted the police. Officers reached the scene within minutes, provided first aid, and quickly transported him to a private hospital in the city. Later, doctors confirmed that his condition had started to improve.
Later that night, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu visited the location and reviewed the case. Subsequently, police teams began door-to-door searches and checked nearby CCTV footage to locate Ibrahim, who fled right after the attack. Additionally, officers increased patrolling around Pocharam to maintain order and prevent further disturbances.
