Hyderabad: A major accident was narrowly averted on the Jadcherla–Kodad National Highway near Kalwakurthy on Monday morning. Witnesses said a Nagarjuna Cement lorry carrying red soil from Ballari to Huzurnagar came close to colliding with a Brilliant Grammar School mini-bus transporting about 18 children.
The school bus was crossing from Hyderabad Chowrasta towards Silver Jubilee Club turn when the speeding lorry approached. The driver swerved towards the road divider to avoid impact, grazing only the bus’s side mirror. The quick manoeuvre spared the children from injury, though panic broke out inside the bus.
Bolero parked on road blamed for near miss
Locals said the incident was triggered by a Bolero vehicle parked carelessly on the road. They alleged mild negligence by the bus driver as well. Witnesses credited the lorry driver for prioritising the children’s safety despite damage to his vehicle’s front section, which was left immobile on the road.
No injuries were reported, and all the children were safe. Residents urge authorities to remove the damaged lorry promptly to prevent further accidents.
