Hyderabad: A woman doctor working at a reputed private hospital in the city was arrested by Rayadurgam police after being caught red-handed accepting a delivery of cocaine. According to officials, the doctor identified as 34-year-old Namrata had become addicted to narcotics in recent months and had placed a major order for the banned substance via WhatsApp.
Investigators revealed that Namrata contacted a supplier in Mumbai, identified as Vansh Dhakkar, and transferred ₹5 lakh online to purchase cocaine. Acting on her request, Dhakkar dispatched the drugs to Hyderabad through a delivery agent named Balakrishna Rampyar, 38, who works with him as a courier.
Rampyar arrived in Rayadurgam to hand over the drugs directly to Namrata when the police, working off a tip, intercepted the transaction and detained both individuals at the scene. Authorities seized 53 grams of high-grade cocaine, ₹10,000 in cash, and two mobile phones from the accused.
During interrogation, police uncovered that Namrata had already spent approximately ₹70 lakh on drugs over an unspecified period, suggesting a long-running and expensive addiction. She reportedly used her professional salary to fund these purchases, often buying directly from out-of-state networks.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the Rayadurgam police have launched a wider probe into the supply chain linked to the Mumbai-based peddler.
