Kukatpally’s Nallacheruvu transformation nears completion

Hyderabad: The transformation of Nallacheruvu lake in Kukatpally by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) is nearing completion, with only minor works pending before its official opening.

Despite the project still awaiting formal inauguration, the lake has already emerged as a vibrant public space. Residents from a 5-kilometre radius—including children, older citizens, and families—have begun using the site for walking, shuttle games, and recreation. The area is steadily evolving into a key neighbourhood asset.

The initiative marks a turnaround in public perception. In September 2024, HYDRA had launched a large-scale demolition drive to clear encroachments on the lake, drawing criticism at the time. However, the clean-up and redevelopment effort has since gained widespread appreciation from local communities.

Thousands of residents now credit HYDRA for converting the lake into a clean, accessible, and eco-friendly zone. Many see it as a major contribution to urban development and environmental protection in Hyderabad’s western corridor.

Officials expect to complete the remaining finishing works soon, following which the lake will be formally opened for public use.
