Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy did nothing in two years except change names, and accused him of targeting the Secunderabad identity.
Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan, KTR said the government renamed TS as TG. He, therefore, questioned who benefited from the change. Moreover, he alleged that the government altered the Telangana Thalli symbol and replaced it with a Congress version. He further claimed that the Chief Minister spoke about removing Charminar from the State emblem. Meanwhile, he said the government had already removed the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam. As a result, KTR described these steps as misguided decisions that brought no development to the State.
KTR then questioned the government’s record in Hyderabad. He asked whether the Chief Minister built even a single new road or flyover in two years. At the same time, he warned that power was never permanent. Consequently, he said Congress leaders would be remembered for harming the Secunderabad identity.
KTR says arrests will not stop fight to protect Secunderabad identity
According to KTR, the Chief Minister attempted to erase the Secunderabad identity, which prompted people from all sections to unite for a peaceful rally. Therefore, he said the call for the rally went beyond party lines. He added that organisers even invited the BRS to participate. As a result, BRS public representatives prepared to extend solidarity.
However, KTR alleged that police carried out arrests across the city to block participation. He claimed that authorities detained BRS leaders at Telangana Bhavan. In addition, he alleged that police arrested thousands of people at different locations. Meanwhile, he accused the government of taking pleasure in arrests and silencing democratic voices.
Hence, KTR said the party would approach the court to seek justice. He also asserted that the BRS would organise the rally again with court permission. At the same time, he demanded the unconditional release of those arrested. Finally, he said the party respected the sentiments of Secunderabad residents.
Referring to past governance, KTR said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao created new districts, mandals and revenue divisions to decentralise administration. Moreover, he said the BRS government expanded Hyderabad from four zones to six. However, he stressed that the BRS never harmed the city’s identity. Therefore, KTR accused the present government of conspiring to remove existing districts. He urged the Chief Minister to focus on development instead of renaming exercises.
