Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao launched a sharp attack on the Congress government on Friday, accusing it of inflating Telangana’s debt burden and using misleading figures to hide its own financial failures.
Reacting to recent statements from state leaders, KTR challenged claims that the state paid ₹7,000 crore per month in loan interest. He cited the latest Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, which showed Telangana’s interest burden totaled ₹9,355 crore over four months averaging around ₹2,300 crore per month.
KTR slams Congress over debt narrative, cites CAG for accuracy
KTR accused the ruling party of launching a misinformation campaign. “Instead of spreading misleading figures, the government must focus on fixing its financial errors,” he said. He emphasized that the CAG data clearly contradicts the government’s inflated claims.
He warned that overstating debt could cause unnecessary public alarm and harm Telangana’s financial credibility. “The government must present debt and revenue figures transparently,” he added.
KTR’s statement fuels the ongoing political clash with the Congress, intensified by recent disagreements over budgets, welfare funding, and fiscal policy.
