HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has criticised the Congress government’s handling of Gurukula institutions in Telangana, alleging a significant decline in their standards over the past year. In a statement released on Sunday, KTR compared the current situation to the previous decade under Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) leadership, where he claims the institutions reached exemplary heights.
KTR highlighted that during the BRS tenure, Gurukula institutions produced professionals like doctors and engineers, with high competition for admissions. He noted that for 41,000 seats, there were 168,000 applications. In contrast, he stated that under the current Congress administration, for 51,000 seats, only 80,000 applications were received. He attributed this decline to mismanagement and lack of direction.
Expressing concern over student welfare, KTR alleged that over 50 students have died due to food poisoning and other reasons in the past year, yet the Congress government has remained indifferent. He criticised the administration for not consoling the bereaved families and for restricting opposition parties from offering condolences. KTR warned that the government’s negligence is jeopardising the future of Telangana’s younger generation.
These remarks come amidst ongoing debates about the quality of education and management of residential schools in the state. The BRS party is urging immediate action to address the issues plaguing Gurukula institutions to restore their former prestige.
