KTR accuses CM Revanth Reddy of diversion politics over phone tapping case

Hyderabad: BRS working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao on Friday accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of using the phone tapping case to divert attention from unfulfilled election promises.

Addressing a media conference at Telangana Bhavan ahead of his appearance before the SIT, KTR said the government was staging dramas in the name of investigation. Referring to the Telangana movement, he said he never backed down despite multiple cases and would not retreat now.

According to KTR, the BRS government focused on development while in office and never indulged in illegal activities. He added that his party did not harass political opponents during its tenure. Meanwhile, he alleged that governance in the state had collapsed under the present administration.

He further accused the Congress government of failing to implement poll assurances. In his view, the phone tapping narrative served only to distract public attention from these failures.

Phone tapping case used to harass opposition, says KTR

Alleging sustained character assassination, KTR said the government had targeted him for the past two years. He recalled accusations of drug abuse and claims linking him with film actresses. Questioning the intent behind such allegations, he said accusers later admitted there was no truth.

KTR claimed the government was harassing opposition leaders under the guise of inquiries. As an example, he cited notices issued to Harish Rao after the latter flagged alleged irregularities in Singareni. He questioned why the SIT failed to respond to the queries raised during the probe.

Describing the phone tapping case as a scripted serial, KTR said he had never committed illegal or unethical acts. He alleged that authorities targeted BRS leaders whenever they exposed corruption. Reiterating his stand, he said he had no connection with the case.

Earlier, during an informal interaction, KTR dismissed the case as hollow. He said he would attend the inquiry even if summoned ten times and would answer every question. Expressing faith in the legal system, he accused the government of misleading people through delays.

He also alleged that the Chief Minister tapped even the phones of his own ministers. Criticising Revanth Reddy over past controversies, KTR accused the Congress of failing to implement its promises. He warned that the BRS would continue exposing what he termed Congress failures and would not relent until holding the government accountable.
