Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of stalling the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, a situation that some describe as the stalling Palamuru project effort, to settle political scores. He alleged the move pushed lakhs of farmers into distress across southern Telangana.
Addressing party workers at Telangana Bhavan, Rama Rao stated that the BRS government had completed 90 percent of the project. He said Narlapur, Karivena, Vattem, Edula, and Udandapur reservoirs were ready for use. However, the canal works of the stalling Palamuru project remained incomplete. He claimed the Congress administration cancelled tenders and halted progress only to deny credit to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
He also recalled commissioning the 145 MW pump house at Narlapur during BRS rule. According to him, the region witnessed genuine development in that period. Furthermore, he accused the Congress government of acting out of political vengeance by abandoning critical irrigation work, further demonstrating the stalling Palamuru project dilemma. This, he said, came at a time when farmers were already facing water scarcity and forced crop holidays.

KTR attacks Congress over farm issues and Jupally’s shifting loyalties
Rama Rao ridiculed the Chief Minister’s understanding of irrigation, pointing to his confusion over river basins. He alleged that the current regime was defined by “lies, demolitions and destruction.” As an example, he cited the demolition of check dams built by the previous government.
He also highlighted widespread issues in the farming sector. According to him, urea and seed shortages, along with irregular power supply, were now common. These, he said, were unheard of during the BRS administration. Additionally, he criticised reduced Rythu Bharosa payments and called the proposed Urea Card a “gimmick.” The ongoing stalling Palamuru project is seen as part of these broader issues affecting farmers.
Turning to Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Rama Rao reminded that in 2023, the Kollapur MLA admitted doubts about winning his seat and the Congress party’s future. He accused Jupally of political opportunism, saying the minister once hailed KCR as Palamuru’s saviour but now praised Revanth Reddy to safeguard his own position. Instead of holding the government accountable, Jupally had chosen to criticise KCR, he added.
In conclusion, Rama Rao urged BRS workers to stay united. He asked them to prepare for the upcoming municipal, MPTC, and ZPTC elections. He asserted that only KCR’s return as Chief Minister could protect Telangana’s development model and secure irrigation for the future.
