HYDERABAD: Telangana Forest and Environment Minister Konda Surekha has called upon citizens to take active responsibility for protecting the environment, stating that human development is meaningless without safeguarding nature.
Speaking at a government event, Surekha stressed that environmental conservation is not the sole responsibility of the government but requires the involvement of every individual. She urged the public to engage in practical actions such as tree planting, conserving water sources, and avoiding the use of plastic.
The Minister appealed specifically to schools, colleges, and industrial institutions to raise awareness through campaigns and educational programmes, fostering environmental consciousness within communities.
Addressing challenges such as climate change, deforestation, and pollution, she emphasised the need for collective efforts. She noted that the Telangana government continues to prioritise environmental issues through initiatives like Haritha Haram, a flagship afforestation programme.
Surekha praised public-led campaigns for their role in spreading awareness and assured that the government would offer full support to such initiatives. She also encouraged youth to participate in environmental movements, highlighting their role in shaping a greener, safer future.
To promote sustainable living, she called on all sections of society to incorporate small but impactful practices in their daily lives—such as choosing reusable materials, planting trees, and maintaining cleanliness—as steps towards a more eco-conscious lifestyle.
