Komatireddy demands apology from Pawan Kalyan; threatens movie ban in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy sharply criticised Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan for his “Konaseema dishti” remarks and demanded an immediate apology. He warned that no theatre in Telangana would screen a Pawan Kalyan film if the actor-politician refused to withdraw his comments.

Komatireddy said the statements caused deep offence. He argued that Telangana residents never created hardship for people from Andhra Pradesh. According to him, fluoride contamination in earlier decades resulted from past Andhra administrations, not from Telangana. He urged Pawan Kalyan to consider regional history before making such claims and insisted that the apology must be unconditional.

He stressed that he held the authority to act as cinematography minister. Komatireddy stated that theatres in the state would not be permitted to screen Pawan Kalyan films if the controversy remained unresolved.

Komatireddy later mentioned Chiranjeevi and described him as a “superstar” and a “good person.” He added that Pawan Kalyan appeared inexperienced in politics, which, in his view, contributed to the controversial remarks. His observations reflected a rising wave of criticism across Telangana.

The reaction intensified after Pawan Kalyan toured the Godavari districts. During the visit, he claimed that the region’s greenery contributed to the division of Andhra Pradesh. He further alleged that the “evil eye” of Telangana leaders caused coconut trees in the Godavari belt to dry up. Telangana leaders dismissed those claims as inaccurate and provocative.

Several leaders demanded accountability, arguing that the remarks diverted attention from genuine issues in the coastal districts. They urged Pawan Kalyan to clarify or retract the statements to prevent further escalation.
