Hyderabad: Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy on Wednesday confirmed that he had accepted Kavitha’s MLC resignation following her personal request. Kavitha, who heads Telangana Jagruthi, had resigned from the Legislative Council earlier.
Council chairman remarks on political parties and policy issues
Addressing reporters, Reddy explained that Kavitha’s resignation was initially held back due to its emotional nature, which warranted a cooling-off period. “Such resignations are not acted upon immediately, but hers was accepted after due consideration,” he said.
Reacting to Kavitha’s plan to launch a new political party, he said Telangana did not need more political outfits. “Many parties were formed in the past, but most of them faded away,” he observed, adding that sustaining new parties in the current environment would be difficult.
On the subject of delimitation, Reddy cautioned against applying population-based criteria alone. He warned that such an approach could harm the political representation of southern states, including Telangana.
Speaking on the state’s HILT (Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation) policy, he asserted that there was no room for corruption. He said the policy aimed to regularise industrial lands and reduce pollution.
Reddy also criticised any move to remove Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the rural employment guarantee scheme. “It is not appropriate,” he said, underlining the national significance of Gandhi’s legacy.
